SiteSelect Compared to Other Methods
There are several different types of biopsies available, but many of them don't have the advantages that Site Select offers. Take a look at the other breast biopsy methods and see what makes Site Select a truly valuable medical device.
Vacuum-assisted Biopsies
- Lesion is NOT retrieved intact or oriented, no architecture
- Specimen collection is difficult
- Requires motors and vacuum
- Very noisy and cumbersome to set-up
- Higher re-biopsy rate compared to excisional (SiteSelect)
CNB - Core Needle Biopsies
- Multiple firing
- Sampling error potential
- Potential for insufficient tissue sample for diagnosis
- Several diagnoses require open surgical biopsy for definitive diagnosis
- Short-term follow-up mammography recommended - this becomes costly
FNA - Fine Needle Aspiration
- Cytological vs. histological analysis
- Cancer may be under diagnosed
- High false negative rates
Wire Localization Lumpectomy / Open Surgical Biopsy
- Requires general anesthesia
- Longer procedure time
- No image guidance; unnecessary large tissue is excised
- Longer recovery timer
- Comparatively poor cosmetic result
